First of all, you should find out why you're having the severe headache in the first place. Perhaps it is something that you suffer from on a regular basis and it is not just simply a severe headache, it is actually a migraine. Migraines are some of the worst types of headaches that we can experience and unless you have experienced one for yourself, you really don't understand exactly how painful they can be. They may also come on with what is sometimes referred to as an icepick headache. This is a severe headache that a sharp and pointed and extremely painful, sometimes debilitating. Fortunately, this type of sever headache does not usually last as long as others but many times, it moves its way into a migraine whenever it finally goes away. It is possible to have a severe headache from a more common cause, such as sinus troubles. Sinus problems and sinus headaches are some of the most painful types of head pain that we can suffer from. Unfortunately, there are very few things that you can do in order to ease the pain of a sinus headache but you can try to keep them from coming back again. Doing a nasal rinse with a neti pot on regular basis is a good way to keep your sinuses clear and keep this type of severe headache from darkening your doorstep again. Identifying the type of severe headache that you have can help you to attack it at the root and not simply try to overcome the problems of pain that you are experiencing at this time. Of course, if you're dealing with a severe headache right now, you're probably interested in what you can do in order to ease it to a certain extent. I find that by putting a little bit of ice on the area, you can often ease the pain enough that it is manageable and then you can seek advice from a medical professional.
