Icepick headaches tend to come on out of the blue and they are often so intense that they leave you incapacitated for a little while until they subside. Actually, icepick headaches are often referred to as primary stabbing headaches which is fairly descriptive of this particular problem. Whenever an individual has this type of headache, it often leaves something in its wake whenever it finally goes away. This is a migraine headache and many individuals have icepick headaches as a precursor to having a migraine, kind of like adding insult to injury. If you are having this trouble, is there anything that can be done in order to stop it? Unfortunately, doctors are often unable to stop migraine and icepick headaches although they may be able to help you to cope with them to some degree or another. Many individuals that suffer with these type of problems often have to simply close the blinds for the day and go to bed. The doctor may be able to give you something that can minimize them to a certain extent or perhaps some pain control that can help in one way or another. Unfortunately, icepick headaches come on so quickly that it is often difficult for you to manage that pain and by the time the pain control kicks in, you are on to a regular migraine. Of course, if you are experiencing icepick headaches on a regular basis, you should not simply assume that they are a form of migraine and will eventually go away. You need to talk to your doctor about serious problems like this and do a little bit of research to see what other problems it may be. Unfortunately, there are some serious conditions that could be causing icepick headaches and you should not ever take the chance of simply thinking that they will go away.
